Overview

The City of Newark and the State of New Jersey are both committed to providing workforce development and training that allows Newark to create and retain high-skill, high-wage private-sector jobs. The goal? Good jobs for our citizens and the ability to compete in the global economy. Key forces in the delivery of those programs are:

New Jersey Workforce Development Partnership

New Jersey employers may apply for competitively awarded Customized Training grants through this partnership to fund training programs that enhance workers’ skills. Beginning July 18, 2007, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development set aside $26,000,000 in funds for these one-year grants, which may be used to reimburse up to 60% of a company's training costs.

NewarkWORKS

The City of Newark's workforce development agency, NewarkWorks provides a single point of access for job placement and training. The organization forms strategic partnerships with corporations and public entities to connect local residents with employment opportunities.
