Booker, Deputy Mayor for Economic and Housing Development and Brick City Development Corporation (BCDC) Chairman Adam Zipkin, and BCDC CEO Lyneir Richardson announced that the City’s economic catalyst engine Brick City Development Corporation (BCDC) has been certified by the U.S. Department of Treasury Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).
Damascus Bakeries Breaks Ground In Newark—October 18, 2011
Damascus Bakeries, the commercial baking company in Brooklyn, NY that is relocating to 60 McClellan Street in the Newark, NJ Urban Enterprise Zone, broke ground on its 117,419 square foot industrial building about a mile from Newark's Liberty International Airport. The company will bring over 180 jobs to the city.

Booker, Wakefern Food Corporation CEO Joseph Colalillo, Newark Farmers Market, LLC President Aron Forem, Deputy Mayor for Economic and Housing Development and Brick City Development Corporation Chairman Stefan Pryor, Brick City Development Corporation CEO Lyneir Richardson, as well as city officials and dignitaries gathered in Newark’s East Ward to break ground on Forem Facility Management’s new temperature-controlled distribution center for Wakefern Food Corporation. The 180,000 square-foot facility will bring approximately 120 permanent jobs to the city, and will distribute fresh foods to ShopRites in the Northeast.

Mayor Cory A. Booker joined Manischewitz Company Co-CEOs Alain Bankier and Paul Bensabat, Chief Rabbi of Israel Yona Metzer, Deputy Mayor and BCDC Chairman Stefan Pryor, BCDC Chief Executive Officer Lyneir Richardson, and various city officials and dignitaries for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open The Manischewitz Company’s 200,000 sq.ft. state-of-the-art facility for the new Corporate Headquarters and Plant located at 80 Avenue K. The world’s largest matzo, 25 feet long and covering 82 sq.ft, was baked and distributed at the ceremony.
